How my city got its colours back? Parent and Teacher Guide

A poignant silent story with captivating illustrations, conveying the idea of doing good deeds and their ripple effects on people.

The story begins with a little girl waking up happily, going to school with her mother. While descending the stairs, they encounter their elderly neighbor and help her carry her groceries. The neighbor takes a moment’s rest and then places food on her balcony for the birds.

A bird takes flight and perches on a tree branch, where someone attempts to shoo it away. The wind blows, carrying some tree leaves, and they fly over an elderly man trying to cross the street. A young man intervenes and assists him in crossing safely.

The elderly man walks on the sidewalk, spotting a vendor sitting in front of his grocery store. He smiles and greets the vendor, who smiles back. Some young children exit school and stop to buy ice cream from the vendor, but the money they have isn’t enough for four cones.

The vendor forgives the missing amount, and they all make their purchases. One child drops his ice cream on the ground and starts to cry. His friend gives him his own cone, bringing joy to him.

The children then head home together. When the crying child arrives home, he finds his younger sister trying to reach a high shelf, and he helps her, placing some food on it for hungry cats at the doorstep.

The cats eat, and one of them runs to a street. It stops in front of a grocery store, which a senior lady is about to enter to buy some sweets and snacks. She stands in line, waiting to pay.

A young woman exchanges her place in line with her, putting her at the front. The senior lady leaves the store happily and goes to visit her daughter and granddaughter (the child from the beginning of the story). The story ends with a scene of the grandmother and granddaughter embracing, looking out from the balcony onto the city, which has become entirely colorful.
